Structural Framing Exercise

1. In plan, draw horizontal column centerlines 1, 2 and 3, 30'-0" apart (place the bubbles on the left)

2. Draw vertical column centerlines A, B, C and D, 24'-0" apart (place the bubbles on top)

3. In elevation, draw levels as follows:
-4'-0" B/FTG
-0'-6" T/GRADE
+0'-0" T/FIRST FLOOR SLAB
+20'-4" T/STEEL

4. Place W8x24 columns with webs north-south, except columns A2 and D2, whose webs will run east-west.

5. At T/ROOF level, draw W14x22 beams along column lines 1, 2 and 3 between columns. Offset top of beam dimension so top of roof at high point is 20'-4"

6. Draw bar joists 18K6 6'-0" o.c. in north-south direction. Bar joists should sit level on top of beam (for now, assume that roof is dead level).

7. Draw 2'-0" wide x 1'-0" thick footings all around with bottom of footing being BOT/FTG level.

8. Draw 1'-0" wide foundation wall.

9. Draw 6" thick concrete slab at T/FIRST FLOOR SLAB level.

10. Draw flat roof deck on top of bar joists as follows: 1 1/2" thick metal deck, 3" rigid plastic insulation, single play EPDM roofing membrane.

11. Print first floor plan, roof plan with bar joists shown dashed, reflected ceiling plan of first floor showing bar joists, two building sections, and one wall section, all dimensioned and notated. Note that you will need to change the names of the plans on the sheet from the names of the levels. For example, the plan should be titled "FIRST FLOOR PLAN" not "T/FIRST FLOOR."
